Gone Barefoot sneak peek: Brandy's in another beauty pageant

It's been a while since I've placed anything here.  But in just a few months, Gone Barefoot is supposed to start its ninth season, and I need some all new storylines for my characters.

One that has come to me in recent days is a new beauty pageant for Brandy to enter.  I was inspired to do this after TLC recently premiered Coach Charming, which is about an attorney who does pageant coaching on the side.  Many of his clients have been competing for years.

After winning the Miss Idealia pageant (season 3, episode 1) and touring the South (season 4, episode 1), Brandy sets her sights higher in one of the first episodes of the new season.  Brandy goes to the state fairgrounds in Raleigh to enter the Miss Rural North Carolina pageant - and she wins!  As a result, it's on to the Miss Rural America contest.  There, she joins 50 other contestants; they represent every state and Washington, D.C. (don't ask how they can find anyone who lives in the country in the district, but they do).  They gather in Nashville, TN for the national contest, with the winner moving on to Germany for the Miss Rural World pageant.

Once again, Annie helps Brandy prepare, but this time the coaching is more intense and the stakes are higher.  Can Brandy go from being the best in the South to the best in America?

The picture below shows the last names of all 51 contestants.  In most cases, the last names are those of actual residents of the states they represent as I've found in various electronic phone books.  Some notable exceptions are Ratterree (as in Lindsay, who was part of B.W. and Brittany's wedding), Plumpkin (Boo is also in this pageant), Hoomanawanui (from a NFL tight end with a name of Hawaiian origin, but grew up in Champaign, IL), and McLyman (actually from California but "moved" to Alaska).

The map comes from WorldAtlas.com.
